Postcard from Koh Lipe – Photo Story

Although much has already been documented about Thailand, this country never ceases to amaze even the most hardened traveler. Immersed in their natural and cultural allure, the North and the South have very different experiences to offer to the soul searchers.

Koh Lipe is one such tiny speck of heaven nestled in the southernmost part of Thailand, very close to Langkawi in Malaysia. In fact, most travelers catch a ferry from this island to get to Langkawi and vice versa. You can visit Koh Lipe by taking the flight or train from Bangkok to Trang or Hat Yai. You need to reach Pak Bara pier from Trang or Hat Yai by cab or minibus to cross over to Koh Lipe by speedboat.

Unlike its glamorous sister, Koh Samui, Koh Lipe (also known as Little Maldives in the tourist circuit) is a sleepy little islet that offers perfect rest to the tired soul. Just the sun, sand and heaps of seafood! The pristine waters render an unobstructed view of life underneath – the world of little Ariel and her playmates. Located within Tarutao National Marine Park, Koh Lipe is endowed with bountiful varieties of corals, fish, turtles and other marine creatures. It comes as no surprise that anyone who lands in this island ends up spending more time underwater than above it! While the seasoned scuba diver can enjoy plunging into numerous bio-diverse spots around these parts, there are experts that help beginners like me get their first taste of underwater adventure. Non-swimmers, too, can snorkel to their hearts’ content and get a glimpse of an amazing world in this marine park.
